SUNDAY MORNING CHILDCARE DETAILS
Nursery/Childcare During the 8:30 am, 9:45 am and 11:00 am worship services Loving care is available for infants and younger toddlers in our Faith Foundations Nursery Care ministry located in C-101. Our older toddlers and two year olds have their own room in C-105, where they enjoy their own Worship and Sunday School ministries.
We ask that all parents or grandparents leaving children in our care during Sunday School and all Worship Services leave a cell number and location information in case of any emergency. Our Faith Foundations Ministers are always willing to help you through the sign-in and drop-off process. The threes through pre-kindergarten children are cared for in C-202 in the Preschool Worship and Sunday School ministries at all three services. Parents and grandparents always need to sign in their children at the classroom door.
Sunday School is held from 9:45 am – 10:45 am with an additional session from 11:00-12:00: Children, ages 3 through 5th grade participate in combined age groups, using The Story curriculum, just like our youth and adults! Each week the children hear a Bible story; apply the Bible message; and learn ways to live out the message in their lives in concrete and age-appropriate ways. We also offer special bible-based studies throughout the year.
All volunteers have been through the Safe Sanctuaries program that ensures the protection of your children. If interested in serving the children's ministry, contact Kathy Giff.
Our classes meet in the following rooms each week: (download campus map)
- Older Toddlers and Twos meet together in C-105.
- Threes, Fours and Pre-Kindergartners meet together in C-202
- Kindergartners and First Graders meet together in C-210
- Second and Third Graders meet together in C-208
- Fourth and Fifth Graders meet together in C-213
- Sixth Graders meet with the 7th-8th group in A-102.
- We use a rotational team of teachers for each group. Their schedules are posted outside the classroom doors.
- We also offer Sunday School class during the 11:00 hour for our threes through kindergartners together in C-202; and for first through fifth graders in C-213. The smaller family atmosphere provides an opportunity for the older children in each group to lead the younger ones in activities and Bible learning under the guidance of adult leaders. The younger group focuses on learning about important people from both the old and new testaments, while the focus of the older one is on learning and doing kid-friendly mission activities.
We have several worship opportunities for your children at CUMC during the 8:30 am, 9:45 am and 11:00 am services.
Worship Wonders...our Preschool program offered at 8:30 in C-202 for ages 3-6: The children learn about the Bible and worship as they participate in activities, learning centers and group time. Please remember to sign in your children outside the door and to leave your location information just in case we need you.
All children are welcomed and encouraged to join their families in any of the services offered at CUMC. Look for the Children's Worship Activity Carts located in the narthex and old commons area. Children may choose items and activities to carry into the service each week. Please take time to read the encouraging and directive words written on the JUST RELAX and WORSHIPING WITH MY CHURCH FAMILY cards located in the pew racks.
If you have any questions regarding where any of the nursery or Sunday School rooms are located, please contact Kathy Giff our Children's Minister
MUSIC AND WORSHIP ARTS OPPORTUNITIES
We have four ensembles for preschool and elementary children.
Angel Choir is for Preschoolers ages 3-5 (turn 3 by Aug. 15) and is led by Carol Covington. In the context of play, preschoolers will explore the music basics of rhythm, pitch and melody through language, listening, kinesthetic and vocal expression. We will use rhythm instruments, scarves, and puppets to nurture these youngest musicians, help them find their singing voice and give them a wealth of musical experiences. Angel Choir meets Wednesdays 6:00-6:30.
Joyful Noise Choir is for children K-2nd grade and is led by Laurie Harless. Joyful Noise participants will learn spiritual truths and musical expression through age-appropriate music/movement activities and quality repertoire. Focus is on expanding participants’ musical vocabulary, developing their singing voices and preparing music for worship services. Rehearsals are Wednesdays 6:00-6:30.
The Choristers is for children grades 3-5 and is led by Laurie Harless. An intermediate-level choir which teaches vocal technique and the foundations of part singing, Choristers practice proper use of their vocal instruments while preparing anthems to sing in Sunday morning worship and other special services. Singers must make a reliable commitment to weekly rehearsals throughout the program. Rehearsals are Wednesdays 6:30-7:00.
Chiming Children A precursor to our youth handbell group, chiming children, grades 3 – 5, learn basic ringing and music reading techniques while preparing music for worship using Schulmerich choir chimes. The Chiming Children Choir is a wonderful way for children, with or without music experience, to learn about music, have fun and learn about working together to praise God through music. This group is led by Jenny Currie. Rehearsals are Wednesdays 5:45-6:30.
