Introduction to American Sign Language

Introduction to American Sign Language taught by Darlene Wittman. Darlene has extensive experience in teaching and acting in multiple Sign Language Theater plays. She completed her M.A. thesis entitled: “How to Direct Children’s Theatre for the Deaf”; choreographing and performing ASL songs professionally both on her own and with her brother, Darryl; being the sign language consultant for Lily Tomlin for the movie Nashville, Lois Chiles & Francis Guinan in Speed II, and Hamilton Camp & John Schuck in an NBC Comedy Special (Windows, Doors, and Keyholes); developing an original sign language for Holly Hunter in the film The Piano (a role for which she won best actress for both the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards); interpreting at many different theatres including the Mark Taper Forum; and being one of 14 interpreters nationwide to receive the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Specialized Certificate for Performing Arts.

The class will begin on Wednesday, September 6th at 6:30-8:00 in room A206. The class will run for 8 weeks and is free. In order to have printed resources for everyone, please sign up here:
